Holiday for Hope brightens holiday season for underprivileged kids

Octagon Club traveled Sunday to a local homeless shelter to bring holiday spirit to underprivileged children in their Holiday for Hope project.

This year, Holiday for Hope was held on Dec. 15 at Howard University in Washington, D.C.

Members of the Octagon Club helped wrap presents for the participants in Holiday for Hope. The rest of day, club members played and interacted with the children to brighten up their days.

“We went to D.C. and were paired with a family with three kids,”  junior Danielle Oh said. “We played with  the kids the whole time.”

This is the Octagon Club’s third year participating in Holiday for Hope. The event is sponsored by Dream For Kids, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping underprivileged children, at risk-youth and people with disabilities.

Octagon club president Will Ferrer said that the club chose to participate in Holiday for Hope because “It  is a good chance for us to be an active part of the community.”

Each member of Octagon Club seem to have a different favorite aspect of the event.

“I enjoyed wrapping the gifts…having fun with the other members” Ferrer said. He also enjoyed playing billiards with the kids.

For Oh, the best part was the event’s complete inclusivity.

“All the people were able to come. It was completely free, so anyone was able to come,” Oh said.
