In response to the 7.0 magnitude earthquake in Haiti, individuals and clubs have come together to raise money and show support the nation. In fact, there is a ?school wide effort coordinated through National Honor Society (NHS),? Principal Jay Pearson said.

NHS, the Student Government Association (SGA) and the International Baccalaureate (IB) board are collaborating to raise funds through several programs and events over the coming week.

Senior Taruna Purihella, co-president of International Club, believes that, with the support of the community, these events can ?set an example for other schools? and their fundraising efforts, she said.

According to senior Lavanya Yeleswarapu, co-president of International Club, a competitive variety show will be held to raise money. The variety show, tentatively called Haiti Night, will take place on Monday in the auditorium. The collaborators want to ?try to do something different? from International Night, Yeleswarapu added.

A silent auction will accompany the variety show.

?Change for Haiti,? a donation program, began last week and will continue through Friday. Incentives will be given for every $200 raised. For example, English teacher Pierce Bello will allow a student to dye his hair and shave a pattern into it if the program raises $1,000.

According to senior Sara Boj?, NHS president, money raised from these events will directly benefit organizations working in Haiti.

?One hundred percent of [the] proceeds are going to [a] grassroots [organization]? Boj? said. ?It would be really great to make this event a true success.?
