‘Look at Me’ earns silver medal

” I enjoy drawing unconsciously as a way to keep my thoughts and ideas flowing,” senior Caroline Goh said.

Goh won a silver medal for digital art on the national level of The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Goh’s work was a digitalized self -portrait of herself titled “Look at Me.”

“I chose computer graphics over art because it’s a much easier medium to work with and has a lot more freedom than traditional art,” Goh said.

Goh has been tied to drawing and art for “as long as [she] can remember.”

“My parents pretty much let me play with whatever writing utensils,” Goh said. “What really made me want to continue with it though, is my older sister, Ashley, who has always been a major influence for me. I used to do absolutely everything she did so I naturally mirrored her interest in art.”

Goh also enjoys writing and reading for the same reasons as an outlet for expressing her thoughts.

“Writing provides a catharsis, an opportunity to release the emotions I can’t display in public, and reading allows me to escape from the monotony of my life and experience events from a different perspective,” Goh said.

Goh’s interests in experiencing events from a wide range of different perspectives also sparked her interest in psychology.

“I think human behavior and the human mind is fascinating, and I wish I could learn more about the subject,” Goh said. “The strangest thing I like to do, though, is to research about serial killers or ‘outsiders’ in general. I could go on forever about why I find them interesting.”
