Parent reflects on celebration, dedication

Wow—what does senior night mean to me—a parent? It is not me who is being celebrated and yet it feels as if it is my celebration. It is a celebration of all those years of carpooling to practice, nursing sports injuries, watching and guiding as my athlete made tough choices and many sacrifices for the sport he or she loved. As a parent it is a celebration of all that is right it sports, the teamwork, camaraderie, sportsmanship, perseverance, dedication and hard work.

It is the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat, it is the joy of holding on once more, balanced with the joy of letting go.

Senior Night is a celebration of the student athletes’ accomplishment on the field, court, diamond and more; it is a celebration of great possibilities as they continue their journey on the field of dreams. Those dreams which have been fulfilled here at Marshall and also the bigger dreams to be fulfilled beyond Marshall.

Senior Night—a night of mixed emotions, but mostly pride in all that the student athletes have accomplished and pride in knowing that they will face life with the strength, fairness and integrity acquired on the playing field.
