Football team begins season with a losing streak

The varsity football team had a bleak start this year, losing homecoming and multiple other games.
The homecoming game against Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technolgy started off on a bad note when the Colonials scored a touchdown in the first minute. Unfortunately, Marshall was not able to recover and lost to TJHSST.
“It was bad, we lost, but it helped us come together,” senior Colton Hodge said. Hodge plays linebacker and running back on the varsity team.
Varsity’s first game of the season was against Wakefield High School; Marshall lost 19-9. Marshall played against McLean High School the next weekend and lost 35-3.
In addition to losing games, the team has also had a problem with injuries this season. Several players, including Hodge, have been injured.
According to Hodge, the main problem with the football team is the number of players on the team.
“Because everyone plays both ways, everyone is tired and isn’t able to run as fast or dodge as fast as the other team is,” Hodge said.
Hodge said the cause for all the injuries is the lack of players for the teams.
“Certain injuries are inevitable, but if we get more players and more people to play fast then we can lessen the amount of injuries,” Hodge said.
