Ravenswood, the new spinoff from the hit TV show, Pretty Little Liars (PLL), will begin airing on Oct. 22.

Ravenswood exists in the same universe as PLL, but is centered around different characters. Tyler Blackburn, who plays the role of Caleb on  PLL, stars on Ravenswood as the same role; however, he has been bumped up from a love interest to a main character.

The main cast includes Blackburn, Brett Dier, Nicole Gale Anderson, Britne Oldford and Merritt Patterson. Their story revolves around a mystery, and their characters must find clues before they each meet an untimely end.

Blackburn will be refreshing as a lead on Ravenswood; he got very little face time on PLL, and his spinoff is a chance for his character to develop independently.

His role as a love interest will be minimized, because Ashley Benson, the actress who plays his girlfriend on PLL, will not appear in Ravenswood.

From ABC Family’s official Ravenswood page, writers say that Anderson, who plays the role of Miranda, will eventually fall in love with Caleb: Miranda is described as “feisty and disarming,” a “go-getter” and a “fiercely independent foster kid.”

However, her wits are used as more of a defense mechanism to protect her emotional scars.

Caleb was also revealed to have experience in the foster care system in the original PLL, and as a result the two have signifcant common ground to build a romantic relationship.

On ETonline, Blackburn was asked “how definitive is your exit from [PLL]?” Blackburn’s answer left the future of the series open ended, saying that “Caleb can come home whenever” and that “[the story is] pretty open-ended until further notice.”

The spinoff is supposed to be more supernatural and hopefully have the same creepy charm and plot twists as PLL.
