Filled with excitement and great action, the newest addition to Marvel Comics’ cinematic universe, Captain America: The Winter Soldier proves to be great sequel to an already-good film series.

Based on the story arcs of the Captain America comic book series, including The Winter Soldier and Secret Warriors, the story catches up with Captain America, also known as Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), and Black Widow, also known as Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson).

The plot revolves around the two heroes working for S.H.I.E.L.D, a top secret government organization that deals with supernatural affairs, and a secret group known as “Hydra” working within its headquarters. Hydra has introduced its newest member, known as The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan).

This new remake of an already-classic character proved to be a success. Captain America is given a darker edge that cannot be matched by any of his fellow superheroes. Additionally, many of the characters are portrayed as having secrets and darker personalities, unlike the usual fun-loving and evil-defeating heroes that audience are accustomed to.

This film also featured striking costume design. The outdated Captain America costume featuring a single star on his chest and horizontal stripes that wrapped around his torso is replaced by a new, modern suit also featuring the single star, but with lines that wrap around his shoulders rather than his torso. The Winter Soldier, too, fares well in costume design: he is given a face mask and a robotic arm with a star on it.

The soundtrack is also a plus to this movie. The music is loud and booming at dramatic events, but quiet and soft during heartfelt moments.

Overall, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is a great watch. The story is perfectly paced and the musical score is a great addition. I will definitely buy the DVD and maybe even see it again in theaters.
