New Star Wars film reunites fan base

Followers of the hit franchise reflect on the movie

I think they did a really good job. Star Wars had such a huge impact when it first came out because no one had really seen anything like it before, so it’s hard to follow that act. I liked the references they made to older characters, because I didn’t really connect much with the new ones. The new one tries too hard to be funny and it’s not the best dialogue. [The references] were the main attraction of the new movie, because everyone wanted to find out what happened to the old characters.

I actually rewatched the original trilogy before I went to see it, and they did a good job of explaining things that were left over from that, like what happened to the Millennium Falcon and Luke’s lightsaber. I thought it was interesting that, as the Stormtroopers really didn’t have any personalities before, they actually gave personality to a Stormtrooper and made him more of a real person. Rey definitely mirrors Luke in her personality, and they did a good job of keeping that classic trio.

I liked the original trilogy better than any of the new ones because everything is so much more direct, and now they’re trying to add more drama to it. I did like the characterization in this film, and I know they’re setting up for a sequel but it’s maddening to wonder what will happen next. It’s brought up so much more questions, and I want answers. We still don’t know a lot about [the characters], and in the original trilogy we didn’t know much about them either but it left me with a lot of questions.
