Varsity softball held its Senior Night on May 12 against Lee High School, winning the game 8-0. The team’s main focus was to make sure that the seniors were recognized for the hard work they put in all four years of playing high school softball.

“We recognize our seniors’ dedication and the whole process that they go through to go through Marshall softball for four years,” sophomore and varsity softball player Maya Casey said. “It also sets an example for the younger players because they get to see that it’s possible to go through four years.”

Senior Madison Larsen has been a part of softball since her freshman year, playing on varsity for four years, and views Senior Night as a way for the graduating athletes to express their gratitude for the program.

“We get to celebrate [the seniors’] accomplishments, and it’s also a time for the players to convey what Marshall softball has meant to them,” Larsen said.

Senior Night also serves as a way for the athletes to reflect on their past with the softball program and appreciate the relationships built through softball.

“It was amazing to be able to see all of the friends I have made thanks to the softball team,” senior and varsity softball player Celestina Dunavant said. “Looking out and seeing the younger girls and older girls all there to support the seniors meant a lot.”

Although the seniors will be graduating from the program, they still had advice for the current and future players in the softball program on the importance of effort.

“Always be confident in yourself and in your abilities,” Larsen said. “There is no telling where hard work and practice can get you. Continue cheering for your teammates, being respectful to your coaches and forever loving the game.”
