Shortened summer hurt students

The only thing that motivates me towards the end of the school year is a long summer vacation. This year’s summer vacation is shorter by nine days, which is very frustrating. Even though having a short summer makes you value every second of your vacation, we deserve a longer break.

Personally, this year has been very trying. In the beginning of the second semester, I transferred from Falls Church to Marshall, which impacted my social and academic life. The systems are completely different, and I’m in a new environment. Weeks into the move, I started to count the days until my summer break. I wanted to forget the frustration of this experience and relax. When I found out that this summer was going to be short, I was devastated. I wanted to take time to relieve all of the stress from this school year.

The last thing I think about in a summer vacation is going back to school. Now I’m stressed about going back and preparing myself for the upcoming year. I won’t be able to enjoy my time off due to the fact that I’m stressed over the start of the school year. The purpose of having a vacation is to forget about the year, but because of the shorter break, I’m stressed for most of my summer.
