Leadership class hosts fundraisers with Collect for Cures

The Leadership class organized fundraisers this past week to promote the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Last year, Marshall raised over 2,000 dollars. This year, the class is striving for one dollar per student.

“First we reviewed the packet that last years’ class wrote to look at what they did and how much they raised,” junior Luka Gabitsinashvili said. “We set a goal to raise one dollar for each Marshall student this year.”

The class collaborated with the Bakeology club to set up a bake sale ‘Cookies for Cures’ and will be donating all proceeds to the Leukemia and Lymphoma cause.

Gabitsinashvili said the display in the lobby is also in effort to promote awareness to the cause.

“I was in charge of the front display,” Gabitsinashvili said. “Each letter [in the word ‘Leukemia’] costs 250 dollars, so if we raise that much, we take off a letter to make Leukemia disappear.”

Leadership teacher Pierce Bello said the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is an important cause to support because of how many people Leukemia and Lymphoma affect.

“The personal note is I [know] a lot of people who are touched by cancer,” Bello said.  “So I think the pathos of Collect for Cures for a lot of kids touches home because so many people know people affected by cancer.”
