Oral Presentations occurring in HL English

This year’s Individual Oral Presentations, IOPs, in HL English began Oct. 30 and are extending until Jan. 18, taking two quarters to complete.

HL English is the highest level English course for juniors and seniors. The IOP is a large summative assessment for the course.

“[Junior Gillian Weed and I] both get really nervous,” junior Alli Butler said.

Presentations must remain within the 10 to 15 minute time frame. Teachers deduct points from presentations that extend beyond the time allotted.

Weed presented her IOP on The Flick,  a short play of 116 pages. The presentations on this play lasted only a week and a half.

To finish her presentation, she revealed insights on two major characters in The Flick.

“I came to the conclusion that at the end of the play, [Sam and Avery] are just friends.”

Butler isn’t the only nervous student.

“I think everyone has some nerves,” Butler said.
