Gymnastic team narrowly loses Senior Night meet

The gymnastics team finished second after falling short to James Madison High School with a score of 134.9, losing by only 0.8 points.

The meet, which also happened to be Senior Night, took place on Jan. 11 in the main gymnasium. Centreville, Westfield, Wakefield, and Lee all finished with less than 95 points, Marshall finishing more than 40 points ahead.

Senior Grace Cusack describes Senior Night as, “a time where we honor our seniors and give them a moment to reminisce for their hard work.”

At the meet, Freshman Teresa Capuano-Rizzo placed first among all around gymnasts.

“It’s disappointing that we didn’t win, but the more important thing is that we continue to encourage and support each other throughout the entire season,” Capuano-Rizzo said. “To me, that is worth more than winning a meet.”

With two meets left in the season, the team has already started thinking about conference.

“We have been doing pretty good,” Cusack said. “We will do well in conferences and get further in regionals this year.”

Capuano-Rizzo added that, “[she is] looking forward to winning [Marshall’s] 5th conference in a row.”
