The Disney+ archive allows viewers to re-experience their favorite childhood shows and movies from Disney, National Geographic, Pixar, 20th Century Fox and Marvel.
In its first 24 hours, Disney+ reached 10 million subscribers, more than one third of Hulu’s total subscriber number.
“I watch ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’, ‘Hannah Montana’, ‘Good Luck Charlie’ and ‘Hostile Planets,”’ junior Amani Akkoub said. “I like how a lot of the shows are shows I watched when I was a kid and it’s really super nostalgic.”
In addition to the Disney archive, Disney+ also offers original content, including three of its five most popular shows. Disney is also preparing different content related to the MCU including shows about Hawkeye and SheHulk, as well as an Obi Wan Kinobi series.
Sophomore Jose Salazar said he likes Disney+ because watching the shows is nostalgic.
“[Disney+] it’s cheap and I can relive my childhood,” Salazar said. “[I watch ‘Star Wars] The Clone Wars’. It’s a quality show.”
Disney+ also has several informative shows from National Geographic and educational shows for kids like ‘‘Little Einsteins.”
“A lot of people don’t know that there’s a section for National Geographic shows and I really enjoy shows about animals and our planet,” Akkoub said.
Akkoub recommends Disney+ for other students who have been thinking about getting the service.
I definitely do [recommend it],” Akkoub said. “[Disney+] has all the shows I watched as a kid and even more. There are older cartoons that my parents used to watch as kids too.”
Akkoub said Disney+ has exceeded her expectations so far.
“When I first got [Disney+], I wasn’t really expecting much considering I already have Hulu and Netflix and I didn’t really think it was going to offer anything new,” Akkoub said. After getting it though, I really enjoy being on it and it has so many things I didn’t even know I would want to watch.”
Sophomore Zimraan Sadeque said he is not thrilled with Disney+.
“[I would] not really [recommend Disney+],” Sadeque said. “I only have it because it’s free with Verizon.”
Disney+ is free for one year with Verizon Unlimited and $6.99 a month or $69.99 for a full year following the free year. Currently, Disney+ is cheaper than Netflix, which ranges from $8.99 to $15.99 a month.
Sadeque said he is not impressed with the shows available and only watches “The Mandalorian and The Simpsons”
“There’s not many shows yet,” Sadeque said.
In April, Disney said they projected 60 to 90 million Disney+ subscribers worldwide by the 2024 fiscal year, although Netflix did not reach 60 million subscribers until 2015.
