Baseball enters district competition

The baseball season has begun to swing into high gear for both the varsity and JV teams. Each team has experienced some adversity, but some success as well.

The varsity team, with a record of 3-7, and has entered the heart of their Liberty District schedule. The team recently faced off against Stone Bridge High School on Friday, but results were not available at press time. Additionally, the team was successful against South Lakes High School on April 14, winning 1-0. The team also played against Langley High School on April 9, losing 9-14.

Players believe that the team is doing well, despite their youth.

“We only have four seniors on the team, but our younger members are definitely developing,” senior Andrew Cassidy said. “I think we?ve made a lot of progress so far.”

Other athletes emphasize that the team is beginning to get better as it moves into the main part of the season and begins play more teams in the Liberty District.

“We?ve faced some tough challenges, but we are working hard and giving our best every day,” senior CJ Bowie said.

The JV team has also been active recently. Their record is currently 2-4, and the team will be playing at home against Madison High School tonight at 6:30.

The coaching staff has high expectations for how the team will perform this year.

“Our goals this season are to reach the regional tournament and reach our potential,” coach John McDonald said. “If we go about our business the right way, then certainly we can accomplish both of those things.”

Although they?ve experienced some mixed success so far, team members believe there?s much to look forward to throughout the rest of the season.

“We?ve got a lot of room to grow, and we?re optimistic about what we can accomplish,” Cassidy said.

The varsity team will also be playing tonight at Madison High School at 6:30.
