Despite their recent loss on senior night, the varsity field hockey team held their heads high.
Senior night provided an opportunity to honor the 10 senior players, who make up half of the team.
“They have so much experience and help lead the team,” junior Addie Clark said.
The annual tradition can get emotional for the seniors preparing to graduate and, for many, move away.
“I mean, it’s a little sad knowing this is the last year I’ll be playing on the team Iike that,” senior Margaret Coppola said. “It’s not over yet, so we’re not too upset right now.”
Although the senior night loss against McLean on Sept. 11 was no doubt upsetting, the team kept intact their winning record (7–6 as of press time).
“Our only two losses in regular season came from the games that week, and I think we were just having an off week,” senior Erika Sherr said.
With seven more regular season games and the conference tournament coming up, the team has numerous opportunities to win. “We’re just going to play our hardest and take it game by game,” Clark said.
The players’ unity helped the team keep a positive outlook throughout the season.
“They’re my really close friends,” Coppola said of her teammates. She noted that the team’s close friendships can make it difficult not to “goof around.”
However, goofing around with teammates may not always be a bad thing.
“I think having a good time shows itself on the field because we all trust each other and work together pretty well,” Sherr said.
