Softball varsity coach retires after five seasons

Varsity softball coach Missy Whittington resigned from her coaching position at the end of this spring 2017 season after coaching for five seasons.
“Due to unexpected back issues, I am unable to maintain the softball field on a day to day basis any longer,” Whittington said.
Whittington said she feels confident in the softball program following her resignation because of the staffing retention.
“The softball program at Marshall is in really great shape today due to the consistency of my coaching staff over the past five years,” Whittington said. “The girls worked hard in practices, competed at a very high level in contests, and came through with four conference championships.”
Freshman and varsity softball player Emily Hoskins said that she will miss Whittington because of her caring nature.
“[Whittington] was always super encouraging and always believed in every single player,” Hoskins said. “She definitely cared about her team and treated us with so much love.”
