The Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the Georgia Bulldogs 26-23 on Monday, Jan. 8, in overtime for the 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship, giving the University of Alabama their fifth national championship win under their coach Nick Saban since 2009. Both teams are part of the the Southeastern Conference, or SEC, and their states border each other, creating a fascinating championship game.
Many different opinions arose from the final outcome as some fans feel strongly about Alabama’s dominance.
Senior Christopher Margiotta said that overall, the outcome of the game did not shock him.
“I was disappointed, but not surprised,” Margiotta said. “I’m an Atlanta Falcons fan, and this game reincarnated the painful memories from last year.”
During the game, Margiotta said he was cheering for Georgia with his family.
“My brother is a big [Bulldogs] fan and I was rooting for them,” Margiotta said.
Cheering for the opposing team, sophomore Nicole Parks saw the outcome as a good thing.
“I think [the outcome] was good and I was happy,” Parks said. “Alabama won and it was a crazy game and they did good.”
