High temperatures create dangerous conditions for fall athletes

School’s in but the heat is still out, Tuesday, Sept 4, students were not permitted outside between 7:00 and noon due to the heat. Temperatures reached a high of 95 degrees during the day. Practices for all sports were held inside; creating a chaotic environment where five on campus sports had to share two gyms, including the marching band. The different levels of each sport (freshman, junior varsity,] and varsity) complicates matter further.

“It has a domino effect with practice space, especially with the field sports. Including band” assistant director of student activities Cornell Williams said.

While the heat causes an inconvenience, there are more concerns than chinks in the practice and game itinerary assistant director of student activities Cornell Williams said.

“Scheduling conflicts are a small sacrifice for the athlete’s well being” football coach Joseph Vargo said.
